What significance does
the continuing development of digital media technology have for media
institutions and audiences?
Media technology is improving all the time. There’s always something new and improved for audiences to buy which will have better quality things on there. The significance of developing them is because the quality of media technology is always getting improved, and most audiences prefer better quality films.
Things like 3D are continually trying to be improved so that you won’t have to wear the 3D glasses in the cinema, the screens will already be fixed and the image will be in front of you. Although more people prefer to watch films in 2d, people are still watching films in 3d. Some massive cinemas will only show 3d screens of a film which gives you no option whether to watch it in 2d or 3d. When 3d was first introduced you’d have to wear blue and red lens glasses, then when it was bought into the cinema people had to pay for their glasses and now as technology has improved in some places in the world you don’t need glasses.
Blue ray is made for giving better quality pictures from DVD’s, and the significance of having them is that people have now got HD TV with better quality picture and massive TV and sound system so it’s like bringing the cinema screen at home.
Films like avatar are made up of 70% CGI. The significance this has on media intuitions is because it’s a lot cheaper to computer generate things and also it makes it look more realistic by having the computer generate where it needs to go.
The film institutions are now bringing out a lot more films with are all CGI. This is because they’re cheaper to make and most films that are made like this are children’s cartoons which have a big audience. They continue to improve CGI because it’s getting use more and more in films.
Harry Potter is a massive four quadrant film which uses the technology of CGI, which continued to develop more throughout each of the films. The famous Hogwarts castle which bought the film to its massive success was actually computer generated to make it look big. However films like the inbetweeners doesn’t involve cgi in the making of the film, but it didn’t need this to have its massive success.
